5 Celebrities Creating An Impact During The Covid-19 Pandemic

These have been testing times for all of us. The country’s healthcare system has been brought to its knees during the second wave. People have lost their loved ones without proper treatment and care. Thousands have lost their livelihoods too owing to the pandemic. There’s devastation and chaos everywhere. But amidst all this, the only ray of hope is to see people standing up for people to help each other in this crisis.

While a number of NGOs have been working closely with crowdfunding platforms to help rural and urban India, including ours, the second wave of the pandemic has seen many celebrities come forward to help the people in need. With their significant presence on social media platforms, they have been able to mobilize a lot of relief.

Here are five celebrities who are committed to doing their bit during this crisis:

  1. Masoom Minawala Mehta — An Indian fashion blogger and entrepreneur with over 1 M followers on Instagram, Masoom’s humane side is known to the world. In 2020, Masoom also collaborated with Dharma Bharathi Mission, a Mumbai-based NGO, to feed the underprivileged during the Covid crisis. This time, she had joined hands with Hemkunt Foundation to provide oxygen supplies to the ones in need. Her campaign was a huge success with over 55 lakh worth of material raised and thousands benefitting from her ardent efforts.

2. Mohit Chauhan — Mohit Chauhan’s NGO, Nivesh was started in 2005 and they have been to support education, water and sanitation, culture, and animal welfare across India, Nivesh has been actively helping people and animals since the beginning of the pandemic. However, after a close brush with COVID with one of his acquaintances, Mohit was able to sense the sheer helplessness that the entire country was facing. Mohit Chauhan along with team Nivesh started a campaign to help those in need access this life-saving equipment. With the help of innumerable well-wishers, Mohit Chauhan was able to raise 24 L worth of material and help those in need.

3. Samantha Ruth Prabhu — Known for her acting finesse and her philanthropy, famous South Indian actor, Samantha Ruth Prabhu started her NGO, Pratyusha Support in 2014, to serve the underprivileged by delivering some unparalleled medical support to women and children, while also fulfilling the wishes of those children suffering from life-threatening medical conditions. At the beginning of the pandemic last year, Pratyusha Support distributed groceries to over 10 small organizations and helped hundreds of underprivileged people in the process. During the second wave, they started a campaign to provide oxygen cylinders and concentrators to those who have no access to these life-saving equipment. With love and support from all the donors, her campaign was able to raise around 42L worth of materials, thousands were benefitted.

4. Nora Fatehi — Nora Fatehi is an actor, singer, dancer, and producer who has worked extensively in the Indian film industry. She has many films and popular songs to her credit, and continues to use her platform to encourage people to be kind. Nora decided to support Making The Difference in their active drive to provide oxygen concentrators, oxygen cylinders, hospital beds and oximeters to those in need and hence started a campaign of her own. She is fervently requesting her family of 28.6 M followers to come forward and help the ones in need during these difficult times.

5. Yuvraj Singh — If there’s anything we’ve learnt from Yuvraj Singh, it’s to overcome even the toughest of challenges with courage and determination. His fight against cancer is an inspiration to all — he didn’t lose hope even in the darkest times, and today, through his NGO, YouWeCan, he is working very hard to help those in need. YouWeCan is now rapidly scaling up the critical care hospital capacity of 10–15% in hospitals across the country by setting up 1000 COVID-19 critical care beds under their initiative #Mission1000Beds. Yuvraj is confident that his campaign will be a success and will help the people of India.
