5 ways you can help society through Donatekart during the Corona outbreak
You can make a difference for the ones who need it the most amid the Corona outbreak.
In the last two months, the entire nation was put into lockdown. A sudden announcement put us all in our homes. Many of us were privileged to have a house comfortable for our families, cupboards stocked with food and a job that pays you to work from home. For us, these are necessities and basic needs. However, for a quarter of India’s population, these are privileges.
For most of us, the lockdown was about working effectively from home, managing our homes, keeping our children engaged and stocking up on essentials for the uncertain times ahead of us. However, for them, it’s still only about survival.
What if we told you that you can help a poor man living in the slums of Noida feed his children? What if we told you that you could help a litter of puppies survive? What if we told you that because of you a coal mine worker in Dhanbad would be able to give her baby milk?
Here are a few ways that you can reach out to the underprivileged from the comfort of your home.
1. For those who helped us every day
Life before the lockdown was simple and convenient. We had house helpers, cooks, drivers and guards who took care of our daily needs. They cleaned after us. They cooked for us. They drove us to places and they took care of us. Today, they’re out of work and are struggling to feed their hungry children. Without any savings or work, they need our help.
You can help them by donating grocery kits so that they too can overcome this crisis.
2. Help the Elderly
As we age, our bodies start to grow weaker and we tend to become fragile. The elderly who were once healthy is now frail and vulnerable. The Corona virus poses an immense risk for senior citizens who’re aged well over 50 years of age. Not only are they alone and vulnerable, but they’re unable to help themselves. They are struggling to meet their daily needs.
You can donate a Corona prevention kit to help them stay safe amid the pandemic. This kit contains a mask, hand wash and can help them take preventive measures.
3. Support Women Farmers
The reason we have food on our plates are the farmers who work throughout the year to produce nutritious food and grains for us. The lockdown has made it extremely hard for poor farmers to sell their produce. Heartbreaking images of farmers standing amidst swathes of rotting fruits, vegetables and grains flooded newspapers and the Television.
Burdened by debt and with no way to transport his harvest and sell his produce, a watermelon farmer from Bidar committed suicide. This is just one of the many suicide cases that have come out amid this crisis. Without any transport, harvesting, packing, moving and lack of labors, they have been unable to gain a profit. In a country where about 15000 farmers commit suicide every year, the lockdown will only push them into a perpetual cycle of poverty.
You can help these women farmers sell their harvest by donating towards this noble cause. Not only will you help feed a farmer’s family but the millet cookies that you donate towards will go to orphanages and old age homes.
4. Lend a voice to the voiceless creatures
The strays have always been homeless, hungry and lonely. They’re reliant on the food given by passersby, restaurant owners, shop owners and so on. With everything being shut at this time, they’re stranded on the roads left to fend for themselves.
Many of us might be concerned about helping out these stray animals due to the risk of Corona. However, after a government directive was released stating that it’s completely safe to feed these innocent creatures, many activists, NGOs and animal lovers went all out to help them with food and water. You too can help them from the comfort of your home. You can send your love through a food kit and our NGOs will go out to feed the puppies. You too can lend a voice to these voiceless strays with a few simple clicks.
5. Ease the Plight of the Vulnerable Communities
An exodus of migrant workers braved a long march back to their homes — some as far as 900kms. Without any work, unable to pay rent many workers clung on to the little they had and embarked on a journey to go home. The uncertainty of the grim situation and the prolonged extensions of the lockdown made it unbearable for them to survive.
“We have no food, no work and no help. we cannot wait as it’s hard to survive.”, said Syamala, a migrant worker as she clung on to her baby.
While the migrant workers battle it out on the sprawling highways just to get back home, the transgender communities are victims of social stigma. The transgender community has never had the privilege of being considered a part of society. They do not have the social honour of operating within a distant ‘online’ world when their lives are precariously balanced on the thread of social interaction and functions,
Many relief schemes and packages aren’t provided to this community. Amid this crisis, they need your help more than ever. You can help the transgender community by donating a grocery kit amid this crisis.
We are on a mission to make a difference and reach out to the communities who are struggling to survive. We partner with credible NGOs across the country to ensure that we leave no stone unturned.
Helping someone else in these times of crisis can be extremely satisfying. We need you to join us and help these communities because, together, we can overcome.
We’ve done it before. We’ll do it again.
