How You Can Help Maharashtra Get Back On Its Feet Again Amidst The Devastating Floods
The people of Maharashtra were only just recovering from the deadly second wave, and now, once again, the state has been brought to its knees. With landslides, collapsed buildings, and rivers crossing danger levels, Maharashtra is in urgent need of help right now.
Maharashtra has been experiencing the worst rainfall in the last 40 years. Several teams of National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) personnel have been deployed for rescue operations along with the Navy. Coastal Konkan, districts in western Maharashtra, Vidharbha, and areas in Mumbai metropolitan region experienced floods on 22nd July (Thursday) after incessant rains since 21st July (Wednesday). Raigad Ratnagiri, Pune, Satara and Kolhapur have all been issued red alerts.
Chiplun and Khed in Ratnagiri district were the worst-affected, as floodwater from the Vashishti river and the discharge of water from the Koyana dam submerged several areas. More than 50% of Chiplun in Ratnagiri has reportedly been submerged, as heartbreaking videos from the area have come to light. One such video shows a woman being pulled up from the flooded area with a rope, but just as she almost reaches safety, they lose grip and she falls into the water.
So far, countless people are marooned in the state, while 207 people have reportedly died so far due to the floods. The numbers are only increasing.
However, the people of Maharashtra are not the only ones suffering through the floods. The helpless animals in the state have nowhere to go. They haven’t eaten in days — the cold and the rain have left them shivering in pain. These voiceless creatures can’t even seek help.
While the situation is grim, there is still hope. It is in times like these that we see the true power of empathy and people coming together. NGOs and individuals have already started coming forward to lend a helping hand. We at Donatekart, along with our partner NGOs are determined to help Maharashtra get back on its feet again. Our campaigns for flood relief will help hundreds of people get grocery items, soaps, toothpaste, blankets, and tarpaulin among other essentials, and will help our innocent animals get the food and medicines they need to survive.
Your support and contributions are crucial during these times and can make a huge difference to the lives of hundreds in Maharashtra.
