“I was fascinated with the Indian Navy — the uniform, the discipline, and everything it takes to make it there. So I wrote the five hour exam and even got through to the interview round to join the Navy. Things don’t always work out the way we want them to though, but I see them all as learning experiences. A little part of me still regrets not being able to try again.

Growing up, we travelled a lot because of my father’s work. I’ve spent a few years in different cities, and I’ve loved every minute of it. I remember being a happy child. I loved going to school and making new friends. It’s when we finally moved back to India that life started to change for me.

My father fell sick shortly after that, but I grew closer to him during the last few years of his life. When he passed away, I knew I had to work harder to be able to stand on my own feet.

I finished my degree while also working at a cyber cafe and doing some freelance writing work. I started working very early on in my life. And since then, work has been a big part of who I am. When I look back, I can see that every person and every story I have come across has helped me grow. Working in the social sector, I’ve come across many heartbreaking stories, and these have stayed with me even after all these years. That’s why I think it’s important that my work also has some meaning, makes a difference. I’ve found that here at Donatekart — every day is an opportunity to create an impact.

Today, I can proudly say that I’m able to stand on my own feet, and that’s because of my perseverance. But my most favourite part of my life? my two dogs — Jaanu and Maya. My father named Jaanu when we got her as an Easter gift 10 years ago and she’s seen me through all the ups and downs of life. I can’t imagine my life without my dogs. When I’m not working, I spend all my time with Maya — cooking, taking care of her, and just giving her the love she gives me so unconditionally!

And in all of this, my father continues to be a significant part of my life. I do so many things because of what he’s taught me, and these lessons will stay with me forever.”
