“Like so many people in India, I grew up in a big joint family. It was fun, sometimes noisy, and filled with love. My father was the youngest among his brothers, and back then having four daughters meant worrying more about getting them married than their education. But my father wasn’t like that — he wanted his daughters to study and stand on their own feet. And so we did.

But it wasn’t always easy.

Being a girl, and the oldest of four sisters, there was a lot that was expected of me. And while my parents supported me, even staying up late with me while I studied, there were still people around me telling me how I should sit, speak or even eat. None of that troubled me too much, because I knew the two most important people in my life had my back.

Once I finished my BTech, I got placed in Bangalore for a good job. But I couldn’t take it up. The pressure to get married was mounting. I spent the next 2–3 years working with my father, instead of working in a tech company. But I always dreamt of one day being able to work in the field of my choice. And then, I got married, and as luck would have it, I found the most loving and supportive husband and in-laws who encouraged me to follow my dreams. That led me to Donatekart — a company like no other. There’s so much support from my colleagues, that it truly feels like we’re a family.

Amidst all of this, the greatest thing I witnessed was my parents growing and learning with us. They have come such a long way. All these moments taught us about each other and brought us even closer as a family.

My mom is my best friend, and even today, she’s the first person I call when something good or bad has happened. Now when my parents and my sisters and I meet, it’s always filled with love and laughter. And the one thing that everyone eagerly waits for? The biryani I make!

I’ve learned so much through my journey, and today I can proudly say that I can stand on my own feet. Who knows, maybe one day, I will even have a business of my own!”
