Seva Kitchen, serving poor patients and their kin for years, have now stepped forward for the less privileged amidst Corona Outbreak.

Back in 2014, it was another summer evening for Mr. Khushroo Poacha, a Nagpur resident and Central Railway Employee, as he stepped out of the CIIMS hospital where his mother was admitted. Little did he know that the mere sight of the poor family members of patients eating chapati with chilli powder or onion would change his life forever. Along with it, thousands of others’ too.

“Good work can be done without any money,” Mr. Poacha was quoted as saying to thecitystory.com. And he proved it true with his actions.

As the idea of Seva Kitchen evolved in his mind, volunteers from his family, brother’s family and friends came forward. In no time, they were feeding 200 people at CIIMS in Nagpur. However, this initiative didn’t confine itself to a single city. With time, they reached out to poor families in 7 other cities, namely Hyderabad, Delhi, Moradabad, Bengaluru, Ahmedabad and Mumbai. Most of the hospitals have facilitated the distribution of food inside the premises.

Mr. Khushroo, the founder of IndianBloodDonors.com and Seva Kitchen, didn’t restrict his help to only the patients’ families; he reached out to the poor communities in times of need. In fact, he developed a bridge between those who want to serve food and the ones who need it. His generous effort of putting an end to starvation is now helping thousands of poor daily wage workers amidst the Corona Outbreak.

“And all this happened without a single paise having exchanged hands over the years,” said the 2013 Nagpur Heroes Award Winner in an interview with The Times of India. “It has to grow through compassion,” he further added to his statement while talking to The Hindu.

The noble initiative that started with fulfilling his mother’s last wish is now fulfilling that of thousand hapless souls across the country. Seva Kitchen relentlessly works towards feeding the marginalized people during the Corona Outbreak. They have also received permission from the Nagpur Municipal Corporation. This has enabled them to serve food to the poor amidst the Corona crisis.

The househelp community, daily wage labourers, slum dwellers and construction workers are the worst hit by this pandemic. Unlike us, they fear starvation more than the CoronaVirus. And, can we blame them? With the lockdown in place, they are out of jobs. Needless to say, they do not have a shelf stacked with groceries at home. Nor do they have savings to help them through the Corona Outbreak.

Seva Kitchen, the crowd-sourced food distribution initiative, has come to their rescue in this adverse situation. About 150.6 million daily wage earners are the most vulnerable in our country at present, as reported by businesstoday.in. With the help of Seva Kitchen, Donatekart is trying to reach as many as possible.

Mr. Khushroo has held his hand out to the poor and suffering families time and again. They have been serving over 3000 meals per week over the years ever since its inception. Their team of kind hearts has grown from 5 to more than 500 in only a few years with incessant effort and pure dedication. Nonetheless, the noble man proudly says it is not his bread and butter. “For that I have a job with the Railways,” he’s repeated again and again.

“All I require you to do is help serve food to the people who need it,” were the exact words of Mr. Poacha while talking to Yahoo India News. Furthermore, he wishes to have this great deed continue beyond his time. Hence, he strives to connect the donors and donees in a way that must remove the need for a middleman in between. This unique and unprecedented idea behind this initiative has received endless laud and honour from the entire country.

Mr. Khushroo Poacha’s other initiatives, namely Seva Tiffin, Milk Seva, Neki Ka Pitara, Jars of Kindness, etc. are always looking for volunteers in order to reach more people in need. It is said that together we can heal the world. His noble deeds only give the saying a reality in this trying situation. Donatekart is honored to be associated with Seva kitchen.
